Dr. Adu Anane Antwi appointed Chairman of new SEC Board

Dr. Adu Anane Antwi has been appointed Chairman of the new SEC Governing Board.

He is the former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The appointment was confirmed during a ceremony on May 19. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presided over the event.

Dr. Forson addressed the new board, highlighting its importance. He noted that the SEC is vital for stability in Ghana's financial sector. This is especially important given recent economic challenges.

He expressed confidence in the board’s ability to maintain regulatory standards. He also emphasized the need to foster investor trust.

“I am very pleased to see this board established,” he said. “Ghana has faced significant economic stress recently, and our people are concerned.”

He added that as the regulator, the SEC must restore confidence and integrity in the sector.

Accountability and strong regulation should be top priorities, he stated.

Dr. Forson insisted that Ghanaians should not suffer from regulatory failures anymore.

“The taxpayer cannot continue to be used as a punching bag,” he said. “The public must not bear the burden of these failures.”

He urged the new board to act with focus and integrity. Their goal should be to protect investors, promote transparency, and ensure accountability in financial markets.
