Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum is the MP for Bosomtwe. He is also a former Minister of Education. He has urged the government to support the Church of Pentecost (COP). This church has made significant contributions to education and national development.
Dr. Adutwum spoke at the 47th General Council Meeting of COP. The event took place at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh. He praised the church for shaping values and nurturing communities. He also highlighted its investment in higher education.
He noted that COP has made progress, especially with engineering programs at Pentecost University. Dr. Adutwum called on the Ministry of Education to support all mission-based educational institutions.
He said, "Whether it's Pentecost, Methodist, Baptist, or any other group committed to improving education, the government will support them." This support aims to ensure progress in the education sector.
Dr. Adutwum emphasized that faith-based universities help reduce pressure on public universities and government resources. He explained that if churches educate thousands of students, the government should assist with one lecturer per institution.
"If they had gone to a public university, it would have cost the government significantly," he added.
He pointed out that churches and private organizations provide relief by lessening the need for more government-employed lecturers and infrastructure expansion.
"The government should recognize that support from churches offers relief," Dr. Adutwum stated.
The 47th General Council Meeting gathered thousands of delegates. They reflected on COP’s mission and development agenda, focusing on education, evangelism, and social transformation.
