Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, has clarified that the previous SIM card registration exercise was not useless, but rather incomplete.
His comments come after Communications Minister-Designate Sam Nartey George proposed a new re-registration process to address challenges faced in the 2022 exercise, including inefficiencies and SIM blockages.
Ashigbey explained that while the initial phase verified data against the NIA database, the second phase, which involved biometric verification, was flawed due to inaccurate fingerprint data.
He stressed the importance of using the NIA database as the "single point of truth" for a more effective and seamless registration process moving forward.
