President John Mahama has appointed Dr. George Smith-Graham as CEO of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
Dr. Smith-Graham was the first CEO from 2009 to 2017. He will officially start on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
He replaces Mr. Benjamin Arthur, who served as CEO since January 2022.
Emelia Ennin Abbey, Head of Public Affairs at FWSC, confirmed the appointment to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.
She stated that FWSC would share more details soon after Dr. Smith-Graham begins his role.
As the first CEO, he helped implement the Single Spine Salary Structure. This was part of fulfilling the FWSC Act of 2007 (Act 737).
Dr. Smith-Graham has over thirty years of experience in compensation management and public service reforms.
He resigned from his position in February 2017.
He is expected to lead future pay and compensation policies for the government. The government plans to transform FWSC into an Independent Emoluments Commission.
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Act of 2007 established FWSC.
The Commission operates under the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations. Its mandate is to ensure fair implementation of Ghana’s public service pay policy.
FWSC also advises the government on salaries, wages, grading, and classification matters.
