Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh confirms NIB interrogation over his tenure as Education Minister

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, a former Minister of Education, is under investigation. He is also the 2024 Vice Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) is looking into his time at the Ministry of Education.

In an interview with 1957 News, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, shared details about the investigation. He mentioned that he has been invited by the NIB twice to assist with inquiries.

He said, "People don't know that I've been invited by the NIB." He added that he could not decline their invitation.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh noted it can be hard to remember specifics from his tenure. "I've forgotten some issues; I can't remember everything," he explained. He emphasized that technocrats help keep records in the ministry.

He advised public officers to act with integrity while in power. "No condition is permanent," he stated. Politicians should be mindful of their actions and decisions.

His comments come as reports indicate that the NIB is intensifying investigations into former officials. Other individuals, like Professor Ameyaw Ekumfi and Kwaku Ohene Gyan, have also been questioned.

The NIB has not issued a formal statement regarding these investigations. Dr. Opoku Prempeh served as Minister of Education from January 2017 to January 2021 under President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration.

He later became Minister of Energy until July 2024 when he resigned to focus on campaigning for the general election alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He expressed his willingness to cooperate with the NIB further, stating, "I have spent my whole day today at the NIB."
