Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam is the new CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). This was announced in a statement on May 6, 2025.
Before Dr. Adam's appointment, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere served as acting CEO. He took over after Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah's term ended in October 2024.
Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah was CEO for four years, ending on October 5, 2024. Following his departure, the Board appointed Dr. Owusu-Sekyere as interim CEO.
Last Friday, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh inaugurated the new board for KBTH. The management statement confirmed that Dr. Adam will officially start on May 6, 2025.
The statement highlighted that Dr. Adam's appointment is a significant milestone for KBTH’s transformation. He has over two decades of service at Korle Bu and brings extensive experience and leadership.
Dr. Adam is a Consultant Eye Surgeon who joined KBTH in 2003. His specialties include glaucoma, cataract, and refractive surgery.
In 2017, he became Head of the Lions International Eye Centre. Under his leadership, the centre excelled and became a leading ophthalmic facility in the region.
He is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons and belongs to several professional organizations. These include the Ophthalmological Society of Ghana and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
The statement noted his contributions to clinical research with many publications in respected journals. His appointment aims to advance Korle Bu’s mission for world-class healthcare and training.
Dr. Adam is committed to building a better Korle Bu through teamwork and dedication to service.
