A 37-year-old driver cried when an Accra Circuit Court discharged him. He faced charges of conspiracy and two counts of defrauding by false pretences.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, requested the court to discharge Samuel Twumasi. They stated that the police lacked sufficient evidence for prosecution.
Judge Samuel Bright Acquah agreed and discharged Twumasi. Afterward, Twumasi wept as he left the dock.
Police officers tried to comfort him, saying “Barima nsu,” but he continued to cry.
Twumasi had been unable to fulfill his bail conditions and was in police custody.
He was on trial with Isaac Danso, a 38-year-old communication consultant, facing the same charges. Danso was not present when Twumasi was discharged.
The prosecution informed the court that Danso had been re-arrested and was in custody at Kasoa.
Twumasi’s discharge meant that Danso would stand trial alone now.
Danso is accused of taking $4,000 from Adinan Lamidi for a Canadian visa. He also allegedly collected $2,000 from Marwan Mustapha for the same purpose but failed to deliver.
Both men were arrested on September 15, 2024.
