A 23-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for drug possession. Ernest Mohammed Agyir was caught with 120 slabs of suspected narcotics. He was apprehended at the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout on June 2, 2025.
Agyir claims he was hired by Abdul Shakur Osman to deliver the drugs. He faces charges for unlawful control of narcotic drugs. The court has reserved his plea.
Mr. Isaac Addo presided over the case. The court ordered Agyir not to interfere with police investigations. This is to help arrest the alleged owner of the drugs.
Agyir is scheduled to reappear in court on June 23, 2025. Detective Chief Inspector Abel Amanie leads the prosecution team. He informed the court that complainants were from the National Highway Patrol Department.
Chief Inspector Amanie stated that Agyir works as a taxi driver in Agona Swedru, Central Region. On June 2, while on duty, patrol personnel stopped Agyir's taxi with registration number GW 9832-22.
A search revealed three fertilizer sacks containing 120 compressed slabs of suspected narcotics. During questioning, Agyir admitted knowing about the drugs in his vehicle. However, he named Abdul Shakur Osman as his contact for delivery.
The evidence has been sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis. Investigations are ongoing.
