Energy Minister John Jinapor has reassured Ghanaians about the power sector. He expects challenges to stabilize by the end of May. Major maintenance works are ongoing at several power plants across the country.
His comments address public concerns over recent power outages, known as “dumsor.” In an interview with TV3, Jinapor highlighted the importance of the current maintenance schedule. This schedule is vital for long-term stability in electricity generation.
He stated that significant maintenance will occur in May. In June, there will be minimal maintenance. "Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we should see stable power supply," he said.
Jinapor noted that many power plants have exceeded their recommended operating hours. They urgently need servicing to maintain their integrity. "If you delay servicing too long, it compromises the plant," he explained.
He urged Ghanaians to understand this necessary step. The government aims to minimize any negative impact during this process.
