Karpowership Ghana operates the Aboadze power barge. They plan to shut down on May 18, 2025. This decision is due to over $400 million in debt.
Earlier, Karpowership threatened to stop electricity supply. They demanded that the government pay its debts. A meeting took place on February 10, 2025, between Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor and Karpowership officials.
Ghana's energy debts have exceeded $3 billion. This includes debts from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned about these energy debts.
