E-Commerce practitioners applaud gov’t for repealing E-Levy, call for more support to boost sector growth

The Association of E-Commerce Practitioners in Ghana praises the government. They commend the repeal of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy).

This decision is a major step for a thriving digital economy. It removes a key barrier to smooth electronic transactions.

Since its introduction, the E-Levy has troubled the e-commerce sector. Most online payments in Ghana use mobile money (MoMo).

Removing this levy will boost digital transactions. It makes online business cheaper and easier for everyone. This change should increase e-commerce adoption and drive economic growth.

As an association focused on e-commerce growth, we see this repeal positively. However, we urge the government to create a better environment for the sector. With proper policies and support, e-commerce can provide many jobs in Ghana, especially for women and youth.

We call on the government to:

1. Strengthen digital infrastructure – Improve internet access and affordability nationwide.

2. Enhance cybersecurity and consumer protection – Build trust in digital transactions.

3. Provide incentives for digital businesses – Offer tax reliefs and funding for startups.

4. Promote digital literacy – Equip young entrepreneurs and women with essential skills.

E-commerce is more than just an alternative; it drives economic transformation. With support, Ghana can lead Africa’s digital trade revolution, creating sustainable jobs.

We are committed to working with the government and stakeholders to build a strong e-commerce ecosystem that benefits all.
