Richard Asare, a local miner and entrepreneur, is committed to responsible mining. He spoke to residents in the Kwabeng community, located in the Atiwa West District of the Eastern Region.
Mr. Asare assured the community that he would protect their water bodies. These water sources are vital for the people of Kwabeng. He stressed the importance of preserving the environment and their only source of water.
“Our water bodies are vital,” he stated. “I am committed to ensuring they are never compromised by my operations.”
He highlighted his methods as different from harmful practices used by some miners. For example, Chanfan machines can cause severe water pollution. His operations focus on land reclamation and eco-friendly techniques.
Mr. Asare pointed out that responsible mining can have positive effects. It can create jobs, improve livelihoods, and help develop communities. He urged policymakers and critics to visit mining areas before judging the industry.
“Mining, when regulated responsibly, can be a powerful tool for development,” he noted. “The solution is not to ban it but to regulate it better.”
He called on the government to implement practical regulations for responsible mining. Mr. Asare also emphasized creating more job opportunities for young people before considering any restrictions.
