The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has banned the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM festival in Somanya. They cited security concerns and potential clashes with another event.
This new festival coincides with the Plau Kani festival. The Plau Kani festival is celebrated annually by chiefs and residents of Plau in Somanya. Reports of rising tension in the area led to an urgent security review.
REGSEC found that both events would use the same procession route on Saturday, April 19, 2025. This overlap increases the risk of conflict between participants. As a result, REGSEC decided to prohibit the WA YAA DORM, WA YAA KLOWEM celebration on that day.
The council emphasized that this decision prioritizes public safety and security in Yilo Krobo Municipality. They urged organizers to comply with this directive for peace.
Additionally, REGSEC directed police to maintain law and order during the Plau Kani festival. This aims to ensure the safety of residents and attendees.
