Three people have died in a truck accident at Akyem Asafo. The crash occurred on the Accra-Kumasi highway on Monday morning, May 12. Two others were severely injured and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that a Scania truck collided with a Howo tipper truck. The tipper truck had an unconfirmed registration number. It crashed into a stationary DAF trailer loaded with cocoa. This trailer, registered as 6294-11, had broken down in the road.
The impact killed the Scania driver and two female passengers. They were believed to be traders traveling together.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service arrived quickly. They were supported by personnel from Suhum command and the Ghana National Ambulance Service. Their efforts focused on rescue operations and managing traffic flow.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Suhum Government Hospital morgue for identification. Meanwhile, police have started an investigation into the accident.
