The Electoral Commission (EC) has met with the Ghana Police Service. These meetings aim to resolve the Ablekuma North parliamentary election issue.
This constituency has lacked a Member of Parliament since the 9th Parliament began. The dispute involves candidates from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP). In December 2024, Ewurabena Aubynn ran for the NDC, while Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie represented the NPP.
Both candidates claim victory, but the EC has not declared a winner yet. This stalemate has increased political tensions in the area. The NDC wants a fresh election, while the NPP insists on declaring results from December 7.
Sources from Citi News say a crucial meeting is set for next week. This meeting will discuss how to resolve the situation and ensure representation for the constituency.
The deadlock began after disruptions during final collation in January 2025. The process was halted due to unauthenticated pink sheets appearing at the collation center. This raised security concerns and stopped result declarations.
As this impasse continues, constituents and stakeholders are growing frustrated over not having an officially declared MP.
