EC chair position must be advertised and vetted by Parliament – Joyce Bawah

Joyce Bawah Mogtari Joyce Bawah Mogtari

Joyce Bawah Mogtari, special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has called for a major reform in the appointment process of Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson.

In a post on X on December 14, 2024, she proposed that the position be publicly advertised and subjected to parliamentary vetting to ensure transparency and competence.

Mogtari criticized the inefficiencies and perceived bias in the EC, which she believes undermined the credibility of the 2024 elections.

She argued that the current process, which often involves partisan appointments, leads to a lack of impartiality. She urged the reform to restore public trust and strengthen Ghana’s democracy.
