The Electoral Commission (EC) will today, February 17, 2025, re-run the Council of State elections in the Ashanti and North East regions.
This follows a tie in the North East Region and violent disruptions in Ashanti during the initial voting.
In the North East, two candidates secured six votes each, necessitating a second round. Meanwhile, in the Ashanti Region, thugs disrupted the process, leading to the loss of all cast ballots.
To prevent further incidents, the EC has engaged security agencies to ensure a smooth and orderly election.
Stakeholders are closely watching the process, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where concerns over electoral security remain high.
The re-run aims to uphold fairness and restore confidence in the election process.
