ECG Accra West Region cracks down on illegal connection - Ghanaian Times

The Accra West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana is taking action. They aim to eliminate all illegal power connections.

To achieve this goal, ECG has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized power supply. They are imposing heavy fines on offenders and pursuing prosecutions. This approach serves as a deterrent for others.

Mr. Emmanuel Ankrah, the Acting Accra West Region Manager, shared updates. Special task teams have been established to conduct audits daily. These teams check installed meters and electrical connections at customer premises.

During a pilot phase from September to December last year, significant progress was made. The region recovered over GH¢7.4 million from 374 customers involved in illegal activities. This theft amounted to a total of 3.3 gigawatts of power stolen.
