ECG: We’re investigating cause of fire at Achimota Bulk Supply Point

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is investigating a fire at its Achimota Bulk Supply Point (BSP). This incident disrupted power supply in parts of Accra.

Charles Nii Ayiku, ECG's General Manager for External Communications, spoke to Channel One Newsroom. He stated that the cause of the fire is still unknown. A full investigation has begun, and a report will be available soon.

Ayiku confirmed that the damaged earthing transformer has been replaced. The replacement occurred immediately after the fire. Technicians are currently testing the new transformer.

Affected areas include Kanda, Cantonments, Kwabenya, Haatso, Legon, and Madina. Francis Kofi Atsyatsya, ECG’s General Manager for Sub-Transmission in Accra, provided more details about the incident.

He explained that a sudden equipment failure caused a blast around 10:35 AM. This blast led to outages for customers in several areas. The fire service was called to help extinguish the flames while they investigated the cause.

For safety reasons, the station was isolated during this process. Once the fire was contained, ECG technicians rerouted power from nearby supply points. By 1:20 PM, all affected customers had their power restored.
