ECG container scandal: Ernest Adade calls for resignation of Energy Minister John Jinapor

Ernest Adade, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, has called for Energy Minister John Jinapor to resign. He criticized Jinapor's handling of the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers issue.

Adade urged caution against blaming ECG management too quickly. He stressed the need for a thorough investigation into the situation. However, his main criticism was aimed at Jinapor for lacking transparency and honesty.

“Whenever the missing container matter comes up, the NDC raises procurement issues,” Adade said. “But whether something is mine or not does not justify stealing it.”

On Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana on May 27, Adade expressed concerns about Jinapor's actions before and after his appointment. He claimed that Jinapor misled President Mahama about the energy sector.

Adade alleged that Jinapor convinced the president to issue his appointment letter quickly. “I didn’t believe him, but he managed to twist the arm of the president,” he stated.

He also questioned Jinapor’s credibility regarding statements about the ECG containers. Initially, Jinapor claimed there were 3,000 containers in handing-over notes. Later, he mentioned a fact-finding mission at the port.

“The minister has not been straightforward in this ECG container matter,” Adade concluded.
