ECG containers were never missing, you just didn't audit well - Minority to Jinapor on 'found' consignment

The Minority in Parliament is seeking answers from Energy Minister John Jinapor. They are reacting to claims that ECG containers were never lost.

Reports say the containers have been at Tema Port all along.

Today, the Daily Graphic reported that the Ministry found 2,637 ECG containers. This number is twice what was thought to be missing.

Richmond Rockson, a spokesperson for the ministry, spoke to the newspaper. He said a committee investigating 1,300 unaccounted containers discovered 2,637 at Tema Port. This number exceeds the initial missing count.

As of April 30, 2025, ECG had 2,583 outstanding containers at various locations.

Deputy Ranking Member on the Energy Committee Collins Adomako Mensah disagrees with this information.

At a press conference in Parliament, he called for full disclosure on the issue.

"We are told that the containers have suddenly been found," Mr. Mensah stated on May 27.

"Initially, ECG reported 2,491 unclaimed containers to the minister. A committee later claimed that 1,134 were missing."

He added that the minister conducted raids with national security over alleged thefts of these containers. Now they claim to have found more than double what was reported missing.

"This is a very strange development," he said.

Mr. Mensah questioned why earlier narratives led to the resignation of ECG’s board chairman.

"We were told the board failed to account for these containers," he noted. "Now we hear they were never missing—just poorly audited."

The Minority demands that Minister Jinapor come to Parliament and explain what happened.

He also rejected media reports saying the containers had been "retrieved." He insisted they were found because they were never lost in the first place.

The Minority plans to push for further scrutiny into this matter. They are calling for transparency and accountability from the Energy Ministry.
