ECG installs 33/11kv mobile transformer to stabilise power supply in Tse Addo

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is improving power reliability in Tse Addo. They have deployed a mobile transformer to enhance electricity supply. This will help reduce pressure on existing infrastructure.

The mobile transformer has a capacity of 20/26 Mega Volt Amperes (MVA). It operates at 33/11 Kilovolts (kV) and is temporarily installed at Tse Addo. This installation will offload some demand from the overloaded La Primary Substation.

The installation process began today at 2 a.m. The unit was transported to the Burma Hill site. Ing. Emmanuel Kwame Addo, Maintenance Manager at ECG, spoke about the situation.

He explained that this measure is temporary but necessary. The La Primary Substation is currently over 100 percent capacity. “A transformer should ideally carry around 70 percent load,” he said.

He added, “We have a transformer running beyond its safe limit.” The mobile unit will help transfer some load from the La Primary Substation. This will create room for upgrading the existing transformer.

Tse Addo is rapidly developing with high-end residential and commercial properties. It has faced challenges with power stability due to increasing energy demands. Ing. Addo urged residents to conserve energy where possible.

The mobile transformer was previously stationed at Agbogba. There, it helped stabilize power supply before being relocated to Tse Addo. ECG plans to move the unit again once conditions improve in Tse Addo.

This deployment shows ECG’s commitment to reliable electricity delivery in the region while long-term improvements are underway.
