Richmond Rockson, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, has shared important news. Investigators have found 2,637 unaccounted ECG containers at Tema Port.
This number is much higher than the previously reported 1,300 containers. The investigation involved a committee from National Security, the Ministry of Transport, GPHA, and Customs. They discovered these containers as of April 30, 2025.
The containers were located in several places:
- 860 at Meridian Port Services
- 1,237 at GPHA Terminals
- 272 evacuated by National Security
- 194 at Amaris Terminal
- 20 at ATLAS Manufacturing Terminal
Rockson noted that 2,437 containers had overstayed their clearance window. This has led to excessive demurrage charges. He explained on the Citi Breakfast Show that conflicting figures prompted an investigation into missing containers.
The investigation confirmed a total of 2,637 containers involved. Out of these, 2,583 are now with port authorities. Former ECG Managing Director Samuel Dubik Mahama previously stated that the containers could not go missing.
He questioned whether the committee checked all relevant terminals. Mahama emphasized that only GPHA and Ghana Customs control those containers. He expressed confidence that they are still at the port and urged thorough checks on all terminals.
