Electricity supply has been restored in parts of Accra. This follows a fire incident at the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) Achimota Bulk Supply Point, Station ‘H’. The outage occurred on Sunday, May 4. Affected areas included Kanda, Cantonments, Kwabenya, Haatso, Legon, and Madina.
Francis Kofi Atsyatsya is the General Manager for ECG Sub-Transmission in Accra. He spoke to Citi News about the outage and restoration efforts. “Around 10:35 am, we had a blast on our protective device,” he said. This caused outages for customers in several areas.
The fire service was called to help extinguish the fire. Atsyatsya explained that they isolated the entire station for safety. Once the fire was under control, ECG technicians worked quickly to restore power.
They transferred the affected load to other supply points in Accra. “By 1:20 pm, we provided light to all affected customers,” he added. Now, everyone impacted by the outage has their electricity back on.
