The New Weija Police Command has arrested 41-year-old Jackson Ekow, an electrician and subcontractor for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), for facilitating illegal electricity usage worth Gh¢156,000.
Ekow was charged with tampering with ECG meters and stealing power.
Investigations revealed he reconnected electricity to a four-bedroom building in Accra’s ‘Cassava Farm’ area without approval after ECG had disconnected the illegal connection.
The building’s caretaker, also implicated, remains at large.
The accused was granted bail of Gh¢12,000 by the Weija Circuit Court and is set to reappear on December 24, 2024.
ECG Revenue Protection Manager, Dr. Mark Owusu Ansah, warned customers against unauthorized service providers, emphasizing intensified monitoring to curb electricity theft.
