The International Day of the Boy Child is often overlooked. Events for girl child empowerment are more common in Africa and beyond.
To address this issue, Sustainable Management Services organized a Boy-Child Empowerment Summit. This event took place in Assin Andoe, located in the Central Region.
Over 200 boys from local schools attended the summit. They learned about violence, addiction, and other important topics. The theme was "Strengthening boys to build Communities free of Violence and Addiction."
Deborah Antwi, a Gender Specialist at Sustainable Management Services, spoke to Edu News 360. She said it is sad that young boys lack mentorship compared to girls.
Antwi highlighted that boys face many challenges needing immediate attention from stakeholders and NGOs.
Students interviewed by Edu News 360 expressed their happiness about the program. They appreciated the chance to share their problems and receive mentorship. Many requested more programs like this to combat social issues.
Charity Bediako, Headmistress of Assin Andoe D/A Basic School, thanked the SMS team for the summit. She promised to establish a boys' club for ongoing support.
Bediako mentioned absenteeism and truancy as major challenges for students. She urged the government and stakeholders to empower boys for a better future.
