ECOWAS Court orders compensation for violations against New Force’s Shalimar Abbiusi

The ECOWAS Court has ruled in favor of Shalimar Abbiusi, spokesperson for the New Force, against the Republic of Ghana for violating her fundamental rights.

Abbiusi was wrongfully arrested, rearrested, and illegally deported in December 2023 despite charges being dropped.

The court declared these actions a breach of Article 6 of the Liberty of People and ordered compensation from the Ghanaian government, marking a win for justice and accountability.

Francis-Xavier Sosu, her lawyer, hailed the decision as a vindication of her rights.

The New Force condemned the incident as political persecution undermining democracy, urging Ghana to respect human rights.


They called on civil society and international bodies to advocate for institutional reforms to prevent such abuses.
