ECOWAS has made strides in advancing the collective aspirations of West Africans – Ablakwa

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, praised ECOWAS. He recognized its contributions to West African aspirations.

He spoke during the launch of ECOWAS's Golden Jubilee anniversary. This event took place at the Accra International Conference Centre on April 22, 2025.

In his address, Mr. Ablakwa reflected on ECOWAS's 50-year journey. He acknowledged both challenges and progress in regional integration.

He also honored the visionary leaders who laid the foundation for unity. They aimed for a prosperous and peaceful West Africa.

“This milestone allows us to reflect on our achievements,” he stated. He highlighted the sacrifices made for a united West Africa.

The Minister emphasized that this anniversary is a time for reflection. It is also a moment to reaffirm ECOWAS’s commitment to its founding ideals.

He urged all member states to work together towards long-term goals. “Let us reaffirm our commitment to this community,” he noted.

“As we celebrate today, let’s look forward together,” he added. The next chapter must build on past foundations while embracing the future.

Mr. Ablakwa stressed the need for unity and collaboration within ECOWAS. He said success depends on cooperation among member states.

“Only through sustained unity can we secure a brighter future,” he concluded.
