ECOWASRegECs Project to promote timely release, distribution of vaccines launched - Ghanaian Times

Four local and international organizations have launched a new project.

This project aims to improve the release and distribution of vaccines in the Sub-region.

It is called ECOWAS-RegECs. The goal is to strengthen oversight for clinical trials. This will help West Africa prepare for future health threats, like Lassa fever.

The organizations involved are CEPI, WAHO, PEI, and Ghana FDA.

CEPI stands for Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. WAHO is the West African Health Organisation. PEI is the Paul Ehrlich Institute, while FDA refers to the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority.

The project includes expert-led training from top regulatory institutions. These include Ghana FDA, which has WHO Maturity Level 4 status in clinical trial oversight.

PEI in Germany is a global leader in vaccine regulation. NAFDAC in Nigeria is one of West Africa’s most advanced regulatory agencies. CEPI plays a key role in Africa’s regulatory preparedness as well.
