The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has issued a strong alert, cautioning the public against romance fraudsters—commonly referred to as "fraud boys" or "Sakawa boys."
According to EOCO, these scammers often appear too good to be true, emotionally rush their victims, and avoid in-person meetings or video calls.
The agency flagged emotional manipulation, inconsistent stories, and sudden requests for money—often framed as emergencies or medical needs—as key red flags.
In a Facebook post, EOCO urged Ghanaians to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity, emphasizing that romance fraud is a serious crime.
The public can report such cases via 0800-910-910 or 0547-419-419.
The campaign, themed “Your Mind for Dey,” is part of EOCO’s effort to clamp down on rising online scams and protect citizens from emotional and financial exploitation.
