Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, a member of the NPP communication team, claims that EOCO kidnapped Chairman Wontumi.
She made this statement after Wontumi's arrest by EOCO. He was taken into custody following a visit to the CID headquarters on May 27.
EOCO has not yet released an official statement about his arrest. Chairman Wontumi spent the night at EOCO because he could not meet bail conditions.
He was granted bail of GH₵50 million with two sureties on May 28. However, his legal team did not fully satisfy the requirements for his release.
Wontumi is under investigation for alleged financial transactions with Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank. Reports suggest he received $12 million from EXIM Bank.
Alex Kwaku Tetteh, president of Citizen Eye Ghana, confirmed this amount. The specifics of the investigation remain unclear.
Wontumi’s legal team revealed he received a writ of summons from EXIM Bank, adding to his legal troubles. This writ follows his interrogation by EOCO on May 27.
In a media statement, Appiah-Kubi said they would respond to the writ tomorrow. He expressed confidence in mounting a defense against both civil and criminal matters related to Wontumi's case.
