The European Union (EU) has provided GH¢1.6 million (€100,000) to support communities affected by Ghana’s ongoing cholera outbreak, which has spread to 36 districts across five regions.
The Ghana Red Cross Society will use the funds for disinfection, handwashing stations, and public health education.
By December 2024, Ghana had recorded 4,850 suspected cases and 35 deaths.
Poor sanitation and heavy rains have worsened the crisis.
The EU’s aid will assist 150,000 people in high-risk areas, reinforcing efforts to curb the disease.
This support is part of a broader humanitarian agreement with the IFRC.
Additionally, the EU is investing €40 million to boost Ghana’s vaccine production under its Global Gateway initiative.
