Education Minister: More investment coming for basic schools

Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, announced a new policy direction. The government will focus on increasing investment in basic education. This marks a shift from the previous emphasis on senior high schools.

Iddrisu noted that government spending has favored senior high schools for years. As a result, basic education infrastructure has been neglected. He made this announcement at the 21st Annual Education World Forum in London on May 22.

The forum's theme was “Building Stronger, Bolder, and Better Education Together.” In his speech, Iddrisu stressed that strengthening basic education is now a priority.

He stated, “Access to quality education with improved learning outcomes is our vision.” The government plans to invest more in basic education moving forward.

Iddrisu pointed out that past funding favored free senior high school over other levels. Now, there will be a shift to prioritize basic education instead.

The forum also serves as a platform for international collaboration in education. Iddrisu engaged with donor partners who support the Ministry of Education. This reinforces the government's commitment to advancing educational initiatives in Ghana.
