The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, addressed the new Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG). He urged them to lead in marketing Ghana’s policies and products. This includes promoting the country’s identity both locally and globally.
During the inauguration ceremony in Accra, Mr. Iddrisu emphasized the need for a marketing strategy across all public sectors. He stated that marketing should not be limited to tourism alone. Every government agency must promote Ghana’s vision and development programs.
He encouraged CIMG to market Ghanaian policies on international platforms like CNN and Al Jazeera. This will help project a positive image of Ghana worldwide.
Mr. Iddrisu noted that Ghanaians are becoming more discerning about quality and transparency. This shift requires a strategic approach to public communication. He said marketing should build trust and shape perceptions, not just sell goods.
The Minister congratulated the new CIMG Governing Council members. Michael Abbiw is the National President, with Ama Gifty Amoah as Vice President. Edwin Letsa K. Kpedor serves as National Secretary, while Dr. Francis Mensah Sasraku is Treasurer.
He praised the previous Council led by Dr. Daniel Kasser-Tee for their dedication. The Minister also expressed government support for CIMG's initiatives.
He highlighted marketing as essential for economic transformation. The institute should promote culture, innovation, investment potential, and public policy comprehensively.
In his inaugural remarks, Michael Abbiw thanked everyone for their support. He outlined the Council’s vision under the CIMG Act of 2020, which recognizes it as Ghana's marketing regulatory body.
Abbiw discussed key initiatives like the Professional Marketing Qualifications (PMQ) program. This program has seven specialized pathways and partners with Traditional and Technical Universities.
Recently, it achieved a 77.7 percent pass rate among 248 candidates. He thanked the President for forming the new governing body and assured integrity in their work.
The Institute aims to expand membership, enhance education, enforce ethics, and strengthen research through an ambitious 8-point strategic agenda.
