The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has sworn in new board members of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF). This marks a renewed effort to finance tertiary education responsibly.
The ceremony included education stakeholders and representatives from various sectors.
In his speech, the Minister emphasized SLTF's role in helping Ghanaian students. He noted that financial barriers should not hinder their education. He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to increasing funding.
The new 13-member board aims to provide fresh perspectives and stronger oversight. Cynthia Amerley Amarteifio will serve as Chairperson.
She leads a diverse team with unique backgrounds:
- Dr. Emmanuel Newman represents the Ministry of Education.
- Agyemang Mohammed is from the Social and National Insurance Trust.
- Abubakari Abdul Karim represents recognized student associations.
- Alhassan Sualihu Dandaawa is from the Ghana Education Trust Fund.
- Prof. Afishata Mohammed Abujaja represents the National Council for Tertiary Education.
- Eric Sewonu Adadevoh is from the Ghana Employers Association.
- Musah Abdallah specializes in investment and financial management.
- Charlotte Otuwa Odum is a government representative.
- Richard Kwadwo Nyarko is another government representative.
- Janet A. Anore also represents the government.
- Richard Ansah Gyambiby comes from the Attorney General's office.
- Dr. Saajida Shiraz serves as CEO of SLTF.
In her acceptance speech, Chairperson Cynthia Amerley Amarteifio thanked everyone for their trust. She assured the public of their commitment to transparency and innovation.
She stated, “We recognize the weight of this trust. At SLTF, our mission is to provide timely financial services for youth opportunities.” She emphasized their goal to bridge potential with opportunity while upholding integrity and inclusiveness.
The Students Loan Trust Fund has supported thousands of students over time. With this new board, there are high expectations for continued evolution and empowerment through its services.
