Education Minister sets up 11-member committee to end double-track system in SHS

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has formed an 11-member committee. This committee will oversee the transition from a double-track system to a single-track model in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS).

Prof. Peter Grant from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) will lead the committee. Their main task is to assess the current academic structure. They will also develop a strategy for the transition.

The committee aims to address challenges in the current system. They want to ensure a smooth shift to the new model.

Committee members include several experts:
- Prof. Godwin Awabil (UCC)
- Prof. Samuel A. Atintono (PRINCOF)
- Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi (GES)
- Dr. Munawaru Issahaque (GES)
- D.W. Agbenyo (WAEC)

Other members are:
- Dr. Rosemond Wilson (WAEC)
- Augustus Agyemfra (CODE)
- David Odjidja (CHASS)
- Addo Nicholas Nii Kpakpoe (COHBS)
- Prince Charles Agyemang-Duah (GES)

The committee will align Ghana’s academic calendar with WASSCE schedules used in other West African countries.

Transitioning to a single-track system aims to reduce overcrowding in schools. It is also expected to improve teaching and learning quality.

By removing the double-track arrangement, the government seeks a more stable academic environment for students. This change aims to provide them with better learning experiences.
