North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has accused the Ministry of Education of knowing about the distribution of over 22,000 bags of expired rice to Senior High Schools but failing to act.
He claims the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) had earlier informed Deputy Minister Rev. John Ntim Fordjour about the issue, yet the rice was repackaged without approval by Lamens Investments Africa and the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).
Ablakwa alleges political interference, noting NAFCO’s CEO is an NPP parliamentary candidate. He is calling for arrests and sanctions, stressing the need for an independent probe to protect students’ health.
Affected schools reportedly include Bolga Girls' and Presbyterian Boys SHS. The Ministry is under pressure to ensure accountability.
