The Ministry of Education has refuted claims that the government plans to abolish the teacher trainee allowance, calling such reports misleading and sensationalized.
The Ministry's response follows a Daily Graphic publication on February 4, 2025, titled "Teacher Trainee Allowance to Go."
In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the Education Minister’s comments during a meeting with the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) were misrepresented.
The Minister reportedly stated that while the government is open to enhancing financial support for trainees through an improved loan scheme if necessary, allowances remain in place until broader consultations lead to a final decision.
The Ministry urged media outlets to verify information before publication to prevent unnecessary concerns among stakeholders.
