Edward Adeti named 28th GJA P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year

Ghanaian investigative journalist Edward Adeti has won the P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year award. This honor was presented by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) during the 2025 World Press Freedom Day and Honours Night.

Adeti is known for his fearless reporting and impactful investigations. He received this award for his significant contributions to journalism in Ghana. Along with the accolade, he also received a cash prize of 50,000 Ghana cedis.

At the ceremony on May 2, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour spoke about media freedom threats. He revealed that 11 journalists were assaulted in February alone. Dwumfour urged the Ghana Police Service to address these attacks urgently.

“The records are not good for us,” he said. He emphasized the need for justice against those who attack journalists. This would help deter future incidents and end impunity.

Dwumfour also reaffirmed the GJA’s commitment to seeking justice for murdered journalist Ahmed Suale. He stressed that police action is urgently needed in this case.

“We haven’t been sleeping on attacks against our members,” he stated. “The time to act is now,” he added.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin also spoke at the event. He reflected on this year’s theme and warned about artificial intelligence in journalism.

He called for policy frameworks to ensure responsible AI use in media.

“We must protect press freedom as AI reshapes our landscape,” he said. Afenyo-Markin believes balance and transparency are essential in this innovation era.
