Surveyor Jones Ofori-Boadu is the Deputy Executive Secretary at the Lands Commission. He is concerned about many offices operating from rented spaces.
"Most of our offices are in rented premises," he said. "Only four regions have permanent office accommodation."
He spoke during a sod-cutting ceremony for the new Central Regional Lands Commission Office Complex. This project aims to establish permanent offices in all 16 regions of Ghana.
The new office complex will be completed within 24 months. It will provide fully equipped office space to improve regional operations.
Ofori-Boadu mentioned that the Lands Commission is also focusing on rebranding and digitizing its operations.
"We need a conducive environment to drive our digital agenda," he stated. He emphasized that rebranding and digitalization are key parts of this transformation.
The Commission has received approval for a major project with six components. One component includes updating maps for the entire country.
"Every country develops based on maps and spatial data," he explained. This initiative will help digitize paper records, improving efficiency.
Meanwhile, Mr. Seth Osei, the Central Regional Lands Officer, noted that their current office is overcrowded.
"The Central Regional Lands Commission office is already choked," he said. "People struggle to find a place to sit and work comfortably."
Osei described the new office complex as timely and significant for staff. It will reflect the true image of the Commission.
"It’s also an opportunity to ensure proper maintenance once completed," he added. He thanked management and the government for making this project possible.
