A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in Effutu protested. They oppose President John Dramani Mahama’s nomination of Rev. Atta Mensah as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
This protest follows the rejection of the first nominee, Abraham Henry Arthur. He received only 9 out of 26 votes from Assembly Members.
In response, President Mahama nominated Rev. Atta Mensah as a replacement. However, some party members do not support this choice.
The protesters want President Mahama to reinstate Abraham Henry Arthur. They believe he has done significant work in the constituency and has broad support.
Bernard Mensah spoke for some branch executives during the protest. He said, “We were not involved in the process.” He added that the decision does not reflect grassroots opinions.
The protesters urge President Mahama to reconsider his nomination. They believe this is important for party unity and local development.
