In a grand ceremony, the Effutu State has conferred the title of Osahen on Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin. This marks the end of a 300-year gap without a holder for this position.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin is the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effutu. He is now officially known as “Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin,” according to a statement issued by him.
The Osahen serves as the Chief Warrior of the Effutu State. He plays an important role in maintaining unity between two Asafo groups: Tuafo and Dentsefo. The Osahen also acts as a link between these groups and the Paramount Chief, known as Oma Odefe.
As head of the Asafo Companies, Osahen Afenyo-Markin will ensure harmony within the state. His responsibilities include overseeing arbitrations and promoting welfare among the Asafo groups. He will also perform key ceremonial functions, such as preparing for royal events.
In his first address after receiving the title, Osahen Afenyo-Markin expressed gratitude to the people of Effutu and their Paramount Chief. He stated that this honor is a call to service.
He pledged to uphold Effutu's values and traditions while working for peace and unity among its people. The Osahen title carries significant protocol responsibilities but is not a chieftaincy title.
Traditionally, when present in council, all matters from Asafo leaders must go through the Osahen to reach the Paramount Chief. This highlights his central role in Effutu's governance structure.
The conferment of this title is seen as a major milestone for Effutu State. It restores an essential part of its traditional leadership structure.
As Effutu embarks on this new chapter, Osahen’s leadership aims to bring renewed vigor and unity to the kingdom. He expressed humility about this trust and looks forward to serving with dedication and integrity.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from across the region, emphasizing its significance for Effutu State and its people. With Osahen Afenyo-Markin leading, Effutu is set to strengthen its traditions and move forward purposefully.
