Three people were injured in a clash during Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Kasoa. One of the injured is in critical condition.
The conflict involved youth groups from Walantu and Odupongkpehe Zongo areas. Both communities are predominantly Muslim and located in central Kasoa.
The clash was fueled by an existing feud. It happened during a street event marking the end of Eid celebrations. Mohammed Ousman, a relative of one victim, shared details about the incident.
He said, “The fasting period prevented them from engaging in a fight.” He also noted that community leaders helped calm the situation.
A female victim described her experience: “I was enjoying myself with my friends when violence broke out suddenly. I felt a sharp pain in my hand.”
After the clash, police responded quickly. They arrested one person who is now at the CBD police station in Kasoa for questioning. Police also seized a hammer and other dangerous items.
Reports indicate that group members carried various weapons to the carnival, including sharpened machetes. Authorities are working to apprehend others involved in the street fight.
