Joyous Eidul al-Adha prayers filled the Gyarko Community Day SHS Park today. Hundreds of Muslims from Techiman Metropolis gathered to celebrate this holy festival.
Religious and civic leaders delivered a strong message. They urged the youth to reject drug abuse, which is a serious issue.
Imam Iddrisu Suleman led the prayers and gave a stern sermon. He specifically addressed young Muslims about the dangers of illicit drugs.
He called drug abuse a "canker" harming the nation. He stated that these substances are "much more dangerous than alcohol." Alcohol is already widely rejected in Islam.
"On this sacred day of Eidul Adha," Imam Suleman said, "I implore our youth to turn away from drug abuse. This poison destroys lives, families, and our future in Techiman and Ghana. It betrays your faith, potential, and community."
His warning resonated with the large crowd. The fight against narcotics became a religious obligation for everyone.
Techiman Mayor Agyei Mensah echoed the Imam's message shortly after. He added his civic authority to the religious plea against drug abuse.
"The Chief Imam has spoken a necessary truth," Mayor Mensah declared. "Drug abuse is not just a challenge; it’s an economic disaster for Techiman. It fuels crime and harms health while wasting our youth's potential."
He urged citizens, especially young people, to heed this call. "Choose your future over drugs," he said. The Techiman Municipal Assembly will support initiatives that help steer youth away from this menace.
The unity of Techiman's religious and civic leaders marked an important moment during Eidul al-Adha celebrations.
As traditional festivities continued with sacrificial meat sharing and children in new clothes, the warning against drugs remained significant. It transformed the celebration into an urgent call for community action.
Attendees supported this dual message strongly. Parent Fatawu Abdulai said, "It was powerful hearing both our Imam and Mayor speak as one."
"Our children need to hear this on Eid," he added. "Staying away from drugs is a sacrifice worth making."
The event highlighted how Eidul al-Adha served as a platform for addressing pressing issues affecting Techiman's youth and future.
