John Dramani Mahama, NDC flagbearer, has vowed to end mining in forest reserves if elected president in the December 7 polls.
Speaking to chiefs and elders in the Central Region, Mahama emphasized the importance of preserving Ghana's forests, noting that some trees are over 700 years old.
He criticized the destruction of forests for gold mining, warning it leads to environmental devastation and desertification.
Mahama pledged that his government would prioritize environmental preservation over short-term gains from gold mining, stressing the need to protect forests for future generations.
