Deputy Transport Minister Hassan Tampuli has defended the inauguration of Ghana's first fleet of electric buses, calling it a significant step in modernizing urban transportation and improving traffic management.
The buses, launched on November 27, 2024, are part of a pilot project under the government's proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officiated the event, praising the eco-friendly initiative as a cost-effective solution for densely populated cities.
Tampuli addressed concerns that the project might be an election strategy, clarifying that the initiative aligns with the NPP’s 2024 manifesto, which includes a comprehensive plan for a nationwide electric BRT system.
He emphasized that this is just the beginning, with plans to expand the system and include dedicated lanes in the future.
