ElectroChem denies confrontation with locals at Songor lagoon

Electrochem Ghana Limited has denied reports of a violent clash between its security personnel and members of the Ada community at the Songor Lagoon.

In a statement on December 27, 2024, the company clarified that its security team encountered illegal miners at the lagoon on December 23, 2024, a site the company has been working to restore after damage from unregulated mining.

Electrochem emphasized that the situation was peacefully resolved after a 30-minute engagement, with no violence occurring.

The company also stated that circulating video commentary misrepresented the incident.

Electrochem highlighted its ongoing efforts to restore the lagoon and support local communities through initiatives like the Outgrower Scheme and community salt pans.
