Joseph Agyekum, DCE for Ellembelle
Joseph Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, has taken action against illegal mining. He has ordered all excavators in the district to be tracked and registered with the Assembly. This step aims to reduce illegal mining activities.
The directive followed a meeting with the Divisional Police commander. This was Agyekum's first meeting since his confirmation last week. He received 100 percent support from Assembly members.
The Police Command will lead the implementation of these directives. They will work alongside staff from the Assembly. Excavator owners will receive registration forms and unique identification stickers.
To prevent more excavators from entering the district, barriers will be set up at Ankobra and Salma. These are the main entry points into Ellembelle. This initiative aligns with President John Mahama’s vision to regulate excavator use.
The goal is to promote responsible mining practices and protect the environment. The task is set to begin on Monday, May 12, 2025.
These measures are part of Agyekum's broader strategy to combat illegal mining in the district.
In another development, Agyekum inspected road reshaping projects in northern Ellembelle. This project started two months ago and was initiated by Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the local MP and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
The reshaping project is fully funded by the MP. The communities benefiting include Santaso, Mandumgbane, Aidoosuazo, Shell, Kwesikrom, and Ewereko.
Agyekum assured community members that road rehabilitation would continue as a program.
