The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, will report to EOCO on June 4, 2025.
He was released from EOCO custody on June 2 after meeting his GHS50 million bail conditions. Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra on May 27.
His lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, announced that Wontumi must return for questioning on June 4 and again on June 9, 2025. This information was shared during a morning show on Neat FM.
Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai stated that Wontumi is under investigation for fraud and money laundering. He is also being investigated for an international organized crime scheme.
Justice Srem-Sai noted that EOCO is collaborating with international law enforcement partners. They are working diligently on this aspect of the investigation.
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) is handling the case and asset recovery efforts are underway. A member of Wontumi's legal team, Enoch Afoakwa, said they will respond when charges are filed against him.
Afoakwa believes Wontumi has a reasonable defense against any potential charges. He emphasized that anyone diligent in their dealings would have a reasonable defense against allegations.
He added that they await official charges from law enforcement before deciding their next steps.
