Emefa Ewoenam Atiamoah-Eli appointed Regional Coordinator for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health at REMAPSEN

The African Media Network for the Promotion of Health and Environment (REMAPSEN) has appointed Emefa Atiamoah-Eli as Regional Coordinator for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health.

Emefa will also continue as National Coordinator for REMAPSEN Ghana. She has held this position since June 2023.

With over two decades of experience, Emefa excels in journalism and media leadership. At Joy Brands of Multimedia Group Limited, she led initiatives promoting health and environmental awareness in Ghana.

As National Coordinator, Emefa established the Ghana Chapter of REMAPSEN. She has also led teams to regional forums bridging communication gaps between health professionals and the public.

Recently, she was selected with experts from various fields to set priority research questions for the Ghana Health Service. This aims to improve care quality at health facilities across the country.

Emefa's work focuses on maternal and child health issues. This aligns with REMAPSEN's mission to use media for health promotion.

Her new role comes shortly after hosting this year’s Law and Development Associates (LADA) Policy Dialogue. The event marked World Health Day 2025 with the theme: “Healthy Beginnings, Brighter Futures: Unlocking Universal Health Coverage for Maternal and Newborn Health.”

The dialogue featured esteemed health experts and policymakers. Notable attendees included Dr. Raymond Atuguba from LADA and Dr. Katherine Attoh from WHO Ghana.

Emefa has led many health campaigns, especially during COVID-19. She spearheaded "WearTheMask-Save A Life" and "StopTheStigma," which educated the public on safety protocols in Ghana.

Internationally, Emefa represented Ghana at conferences in Lomé, Togo, and Dakar, Senegal. Her participation fostered collaborations in health communication and policy advocacy.

REMAPSEN President Bamba Youssouf expressed confidence in Emefa's abilities. He stated that her dedication makes her an invaluable asset to REMAPSEN.

Emefa’s appointment is part of a broader restructuring within REMAPSEN. Boureima Sanga from Burkina Faso is now Regional Coordinator for Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Boubou Sow has been named Special Advisor to the President and Regional Partnership Coordinator.

As REMAPSEN tackles critical health issues through media advocacy, Emefa’s approach combines media, policy, and grassroots engagement. Her influence will drive impactful change in maternal and newborn health across West and Central Africa.
